Birthday ride

Miles rode: 15
time: 55:00
Temp: 41

Wanted to repeat last year’s solo century, but there was just too much going on to fit it in. So the ride was much shorter. MUCH shorter.

Puncture‘Course I had to fix a flat before getting out on the road. One of those no-reason, flat-while-sitting-in the-back-of-the-car annoyances. My bike doesn’t like me anymore, I think. Even though, it’s been going everywhere with me in the back of the Highlander. I should probably clean it. It’s filthy still from the 200km ride and it didn’t get any better from the stretches of dirt road on last weekend’s 55 miler.

So I pry off the bead near the hiss on the rear tire. (I could see the foreign object embedded in the tire tread and picked it out.) I pull out the tube and can’t find the puncture anywhere near where the foreign object was. Turns out it was about 3 inches away… at the last patch I made. The Skab was leaking. I smoothed it down and that seemed to work pretty well. Tucked the tube back in, reseated the tire, and was done in a few minutes without having to take the wheel off the frame.

The open roadDucks

John & Shannon threw me a delicious little birthday dinner and the two glasses of wine I had were quite enough for me and my ridiculously low tolerance. Now it’s late, can’t keep my eyes open, so I’ll end with a good (I hope) haiku for today’s ride:

Inauspicious start
Yet well met? You bet! Was my
short birthday bike ride

Birthday?? Did you say birthday dinner? So okay spill it, your birthday was yesterday? A belated Happy Birthday to you, glad you had a nice birthday dinner. Wine haha at least you admit, it did get to you. Me heck all I would have to do is sniff the bottle top and I would be wasted, tee hee.
You sound like a pro at fixing flat tires, way to go. Has to be so aggravating though to see yet another flat.
Love the pics of the open road, looks peaceful, no wonder you ride!!!

    A birthday flat means
the rest will stay inflated –
    have a happy year!

You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it. It was great to have you over. I can usually arrange to have some wine here. I am more willing to experiment with cheap wine than cheap shorts these days.

so John is whining about cheap shorts and not selling cheap wine short?
