Wednesday night ride
Last night’s group ride was an adventure. It started in Burnt Hills and was supposed to go north, then east and around Saratoga Lake, then back south to BH. Well, we (Jim, Bob, Bar and I) made it 17 miles north and decided against starting east to go around the lake because of the god-awful clouds looming just northwest of us. We managed to scamper to dry safety literally seconds before the deluge hit. Siro’s restaurant’s enormous patio awning to the rescue! Man was it loud and heavy rain. One of the semi-temporary tents that they had erected to cover more of their patio space collapsed under the rain—it was about a 20’x20’ tent. They were closed so we had the whole place to ourselves… for an interminable hour! Once the worst was over, we started home in a light rain and got back to the cars at 9pm. Saratoga has notoriously poor drainage, and one of the intersections we rode through had about 3 inches of standing water.
This makes the 2nd Wed night ride I’ve joined that had significant rain. I’ll be checking the radar weather maps closely from now on before heading out!
