10 Things Wrong with PC Technology

I wholeheartedly agree with this article. Item nine is particularly apropos.

9. It’s never simple enough. One tech conversation my wife and I have on a
regular basis usually goes something like this:

Her: “It didn’t work.”
Me: “What?”
Her: “The margins. I tried to set them up
in Microsoft Word so the page would look nice. I did this before, but I
can’t remember how. There’s nothing here that tells me what to do.”
Me: “Go
to File/Page Setup…”
Her: “There is no Page Setup.”
Me: “Oh, it’s hidden
because you haven’t used it in a bit. Just…”
Her: “What? That’s stupid.
GRRRRR! So where is it?
Me: “Click on those double arrows.”

Similarly, when she wanted to burn some image files on a CD for a friend,
she could not figure out how to do it. She gave up and now the system
cheerfully reminds her on every boot up that she had files waiting to be
burned to CD.
