Softball Shiner
I’ve been injured and bruised more in the last month and a half playing slow-pitch softball on my company team than I have in the last three years of serious biking. This is from my coach’s post on my corporate intranet:
Thank God We Lost
I know, I know, a coach shouldn’t say such things. But if we won after Kurt got a black eye, we would’ve made a list of who would get get hit in the face next and as the coach I would’ve had to volunteer to be next. Yeah, no.
So…
…I screwed up on first base the first two innings. I didn’t want us to be embarrassed or anything, but I know how good my team is so I gave the other guys, and my face, a nice 13-3 cushion. Imagine how I felt as the score got closer and closer, 13-6, 13-9, until finally 13-12. These guys couldn’t score a single run in 5 innings. 5 freaking innings! And all because one-eye Kurt pitched a kick ass game. They couldn’t get any clean hits on any of his pitches. I would like to take credit for choosing good pitchers.
Anyhow, I found myself cheering for my squad despite what it would mean for me. And with bases loaded, two outs, two strikes and two balls, the umpire steals the game by calling a ball a strike.
Coming back from 13-3 to 13-12, see what we can do when we stick together?

Yikes, Kurt! Was that from a ball? Maybe at restaurants or cycling shops you could try the “Steph beats me” sympathy approach for some discounts…? Just a helpful suggestion from your gaming nemesis. :)

If I couldn’t see the collar of your shirt, and the picture was a bit more grainy, I’d swear it was from C.O.P.S.

Nice shiner! Figures I leave (the baseball player) and NOW you have a softball team. Sheesh! Nice pictures on the ride. I am going to be stationed in Korea at Camp Casey for a year in October so I’ll be taking up more riding myself(mountains and such require the mountain bike though). Goodluck on the next one. Four more weeks of Ft Gordon. See ya.
