Vexation, Piquancy, and Loquatious

All words from last night’s Scrabble Tourney for Literacy NENY. Our team, McMurry, came in 4th out of about 15 or so teams.

Scrabble teamIt was a weird variation on Scrabble. Our entire team works to achieve the highest score with all the tiles face up at our disposal. We scored 1110 with the help of endorsed (and encouraged) cheating of buying tiles we wanted (at face value) and buying peeks at a dictionary. Thirty minutes is the time limit and you lose points for unused tiles (we lost 2 pts). Kinda chaotic, very loud (it was in Longfellows on Saratoga Lake), free food and drink. I’d probably do it again.

It left me longing for a normal round of Scrabble.

Word FreakBy the way, I read “Word Freak” about a year ago and really enjoyed it. I’d recommend it to any Scrabble enthusiasts.

  1. Sounds kind of fun. I look forward to hearing how you were able to get TWO words with a “Q” in them…?

  3. Ha! Good question. Buying more letters was encouraged. This was a fundraiser, after all, so the organizers made everything money related.
