Second fastest five miler yet–just missed the best pace by three seconds. Nice and warm tonight, a smidge over freezing. I ran after dinner and struggled with an uncomfortable stomach the whole time. Probably could have squeeze a couple seconds out of the 8:44 pace with a tame tummy.
Previous five mile paces: 9:26, 9:30, 10:30, 9:22, 8:42, 9:14, 9:28.
I got a second wind at the end of work yesterday, Monday, but squandered it on a family dinner. Dinner ran late and it was snowing by the time I got home. Somehow I managed to tap back into that energy tonight and pull off a great run. The power of the mind… just remembered how I felt, enjoyed it, and applied it to the task at hand.
Found out the local brand spanking new YMCA costs $41/month (with no long-term commitment necessary), and Adult Swim instruction is $75 on Tuesday nights. It’s sad that I have to take lessons, but I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong when in the water. See… I sink rather quickly. Am I moving incorrectly and pulling myself downward by accident? Am I just not that buoyant? I bought a triathlon magazine this weekend and have been leafing through it not really absorbing that much but getting a feel for the sport. Damn but there are a lot of ads in that magazine! Seems like every page has an ad for some tri somewhere in the world.
Anyway, one thing I did manage to absorb in my unfocused haze was that wet suits can provide buoyancy. Bonus! If that’s the case, then I’m looking for the most buoyant sucker I can find! Any of you readers have experience with wet suits? Brian? Dani? My reliable jet-ski racer EMT readers?

Ok I call my wet suit Poor Man’s Liposuction. When I put that thing on damm I look good gets me down to about 3 asses. It does help you float too. I think I might start wearing under everything. Just a thought. Ok Kurt I was inspired by your running. Got me some new Nike running sneakers the whole 9. Then I get a hip injury. Oh ya had the cortisone shot yesterday and all. Ok that did not feel good. It really hurt when the novicane wore off about 3:00pm yesterday. The shot had both novicane and cortisone in it. Big old needle too. So before the injury, which I have no idea how it happened, I did get to run a few miles felt pretty good too. My breathing was quite good. It is odd I didn’t get checked ,I didn’t fall on it , it just hurts and hurts bad. I swear I am 90 years old. I want to do a triathlon too. Or at least a 5 to 10k. I am an excellent swimmer and can cycle ok. I guess I need to heal first before I make any plans other than an old folks home.
mmmm wet suit??? The only wet suit I know of would be my bathing suit after I get out of the pool or hottub!! Sorry no help from me.
You are an inspiration to others, your dedication to running is awesome
Sorry….I am of no help with wet suits or swimming. Get some floaties for your arms, maybe? Morgan has some. I’m sure she’ll let you borrow them for a while.
Ok..I’m tired just reading of all the running you do. Makes me think I need to get my A$% back on the treadmill..hmm maybe tomorrow!
I don’t know anything about wetsuits but Brian may be able to help you out. You post good times on your runs. Even on the treadmill at the gym, my best time is somewhere in the 12-15 minute range. That doesn’t account for all the added crap the road throws at you. I’m slow. Good thing I’ve never done it for time, huh?
