Yeah, pretty cold tonight. Almost didn’t go out but remembered my favorite quote concerning cycling… “there is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” It’s actually an appropriate saying for any outdoor activity, not just cycling. So I suited up and headed out.
My Head Sock balaclava did the bulk of the work keeping me warm. I had it snugged down tight, keeping crevices closed, and only a slit open for my eyes. Eyes which after a couple miles started to have trouble blinking when the eyelashes froze together.
I felt like a terrorist with this headgear. visibility was limited to no closer than 20 feet in front of me… no problem since I’ve long since weaned myself of staring at the road just ahead of me feet. A habit that makes running feel SO much longer. The stars were mostly concealed by light clouds but did appear once in a while. It was difficult to look up also.
When I let my dog out in the frigid morning, she quickly did her doggie thing and came back to the patio door lifting first one foot, then another and hopping on the other. She looked like the opposite of one of those desert lizards trying to survive on scalding hot sand.
The hands, amazingly, got too hot for gloves. Two miles in they had to come off and never the gloves never went back on. I think they acted like little cooling factories, helping my body rid itself of excess heat from the layers of clothing. (Not that I had more than the usual layers, oddly, in spite of the cold.)
Tonight’s theme song set the pace, a slower, recovery pace, with a melancholy melody. The Amelie soundtrack is a fun, French, collection of piano and some accordion themes. I know at least one or two of my audience are avid movie soundtrack listeners, how about the rest of you?
Do you enjoy soundtracks? Both kinds. The ones with source music, and the ones with music composed specifically for the movie. An example of the former would be something like the soundtrack to Pretty in Pink with source music from The Psychedelic Furs, OMD, New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, etc. The an example of the latter would be my Amelie soundtrack or something like Edward Scissorhands by Danny Elfman. I gravitate towards the latter, Danny being my favorite composer. What are your favorites?

I am much more a fan of scores than source music “soundtracks.” There are a few good soundtracks out there. Any release related to a Tarantino film and Until the End of the World (Wim Wenders) comes to mind. My advice is avoid any soundtrack which includes the words “Inspired by the film.”

I had a comment but then I saw John mention “Until The End of the World”. I didn’t think anyone else knew that movie. It’s one of my favorites.
