Five miles of Ladytron
Miles run: 5.07
Time: 53:20
Pace: a lousy 10:30
HR: (forgot to start the hear rate monitor)
Perceived effort: 7
Temp: 25°
On the iPod: the entire “Witching Hour” album by Ladytron
Things I noticed:
The Witching Hour is reminiscent of The Cocteau Twins. I still like their older album, Light and Magic, better.- Knees feel fine. Everything in general felt fine.
- Stomach was the culprit tonight. Dinner, even though only a spiffy salad from Legend’s, sat kinda uncomfortably.
- A swath of trees have been cut down on Northern Pines road on my 5 mile loop. The scent was that of a Christmas tree farm. The landscape of a war zone.
- The moon was sooo bright my shadow was cast in razor sharp precision on the road. Only turned the flashlight on when cars whizzed by.
- About 75% of cars give me a courteously wide berth. I can tell the other 25% or so are muttering under their breath at me.
- A house I’ve passed for years on Northern Pines now has a nice new outdoor kennel built on. A friendly German Shepard now lives there. And… the huge old tree out front is missing. All these changes in one week!
- The more things you take for granted, the more things want to change.
- I wish my HR monitor automatically started recording data when my HR went above a certain threshold. Wouldn’t that be nice?
- At work, Hanad & I noticed that the apostrophe and letter ‘L’ are on the same key on our fancy-shmancy PDA/cellphones. Coincidence? I think not. Think of all the contractions you type ending in ‘ll.
- My flashlight is my cycling headlight. Bright LED sucker. Small, comfortable to hold. But, damn, the switch is inconvenient to work! It’s a slide switch all the way at the end opposite the bulb. There’s no way I can work it with one hand. Annoying.
- After 3.5 miles, I found a rhythm. ‘Course at 3.5 miles a long slow downhill also starts. But still, it’s nice to have a good section somewhere along the run.
- Just earlier at 3 miles I came to an intersection and choice. I was feeling relatively good, albeit VERY slow. Do I increase the loop from 5 to 7ish? Haven’t gone that way before. Opted to stick to the plan and add miles if I still felt good.
- Stuck to the plan and finished right at 5.
- Why Ladytron? It’s electro music. Sort of a cross between electronica (or techno) and ambient-house. I love electronica. Loved it before it was even a genre. I remember listening to Rockit by Herbie Hancock or anything by the Art of Noise and thinking “THIS is it. THIS is what I love to listen to.”

You runs sound very “scenic” and wow I tire out just reading about how much you run and ride you bike.
It’s nice to see different thing each time though, isnt’ it? Being aware of your surroundings, that’s a good thing.

It’s good that you have a comfortable spot in the middle of the run. That way if you’re feeling not quite up to par in the beginning at least you know your comfy spot is coming up.
Angela and I are starting on the treadmills at work since she usually runs outside when it gets nice. I don’t want to get left back inside so I’m trying the treadmill… I don’t like it yet but it’ll be nice to be outside in the Spring.
Kudos Kurt!

I’m amazed just how observant you are!!! HAHA I’m so completely CLUELESS about what is around me. For instance, the other day I went over to a friends house for dinner..I walked in and said, when did that gargage get built on your road? hmm their response..LAST YEAR!! haha I guess when I have my mind set on something..I’m clueless!! Eiven if I did see it, I probably forgot it was there! haha…(hehe..I’m dumber than you….) 8)
